PSG offers the city of Paris €40 million for Parc des Princes

As part of discussions about the potential future expansion of the capacity of their home stadium, Paris Saint-Germain have made a €40 million offer to the city of Paris for the Parc des Princes, according to L’Équipe’s report in today’s issue.

Pierre Rabadan, the deputy mayor of the capital city for sports, told L’Équipe that PSG had informed them that they would be interested in purchasing the stadium in order to complete the work, that the city authorities had instructed them to make an offer, and that they had been presented with a low one.

The stadium’s value has been estimated by the city’s urban department to be €350 million, while another study put the figure at €200 million, according to those close to Qatar Sports Investment, the owners of PSG.

The club’s lowball offer is due in part to their €85 million renovation of the stadium for Euro 2016 and the fact that they currently have a 30-year lease. In this regard, Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s Wednesday comments about possibly leaving the stadium could be interpreted as an attempt to persuade the city to lower its asking price.

Some, both at the town hall and at PSG, were taken aback by the timing of his remarks, which came just moments after it was revealed they were in contact with potential minority shareholders.
