Possible starting lineup for Spain’s matchup with Costa Rica in game 1 of the group stage

In the first official meeting between the two sides, Spain will face Costa Rica in their first game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday.

The youthful Spanish squad has several players without World Cup experience, but manager Luis Enrique thinks their enthusiasm and optimism can make up for it.

Spain: disappointing since 2010

Since winning the tournament in 2010, La Roja has not put up a stunning performance, whereas Costa Rica had their greatest performance in 2014, when they advanced to the quarterfinals. Although their opponent is the lowest-ranked team in Group E, Spain is still expected to win this game.

After replacing injured Jose Gaya with Alejandro Balde before to the tournament, the Spanish squad now has a fully healthy roster to pick from.

Alvaro Morata and Ferran Torres on the right flank are likely to start for Spain in Enrique’s projected starting lineup. With a total of 27 goals, Morata leads the squad in goal scoring. Despite the fact that Marco Asensio and Pablo Sarabia are also potential candidates, Ansu Fati may join them in the front line.

Pau Torres and Aymeric Laporte appear destined to play in the middle of the defense, while young star Pedri, Gavi, and Sergio Busquets are likely to make up the midfield.

Jordi Alba and Dani Carvajal are getting ready to take over the full-back positions while Unai Simon will start in goal. The projected configuration for Spain is 4-3-3.
