Lewandowski acknowledges he is “not thrilled” with Barcelona’s early UCL departure.

While acknowledging his deep disappointment after Barcelona’s exit from the Champions League, Robert Lewandowski believes the squad can learn from the experience and go ahead.

Following last Wednesday’s convincing 3-0 loss to Lewandowski’s old team Bayern Munich, Barcelona will enter the Europa League for the second consecutive year.

Although Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer, he has not been able to change the team’s European performance. The Polish striker said that he is disappointed about his team’s elimination from the top club tournament in Europe, but he thinks that with ‘time and patience’, manager Xaxi can turn the team around.

Lewandowski told La Vanguardia, “Obviously I’m not satisfied, Barcelona should be in the last 16.”

But I was always aware, even before I joined Barça, that the inaugural campaign can prove to be more challenging than it needs to be.

“We must exercise patience while we rebuild, which takes time.” The following season will be completely different, and I’m certain that these setbacks will help our squad mature.

“We are changing. I didn’t anticipate my arrival or the success of the first season. I maintain that it is a process that calls for patience and time.

Lewandowski has had a great start to his time at Barcelona, scoring 18 goals in 17 games played in all competitions.

He most recently did it on Saturday against Valencia, scoring the game-winning goal in stoppage time.

Barcelona currently only trail Real Madrid by one point at the top of LaLiga as Real Madrid only drew with Girona at home the following day.

Prior to their last group match on Tuesday, away at Viktoria Plzen, their destiny in Europe had already been decided.
