Hector Bellerin sends out important World Cup advice
|Prior to the start of the tournament, Barcelona defender Hector Bellerin sharply criticized the 2022 World Cup organizers.
Due to ongoing unrest in the Middle East, hosts Qatar will play Ecuador in the opening match of the competition tomorrow in Al Khor.
The Qatari government and FIFA have come under heavy fire for continuing with the tournament in the face of widespread international criticism for a number of human rights violations.
As the pressure mounts, the two agencies have chosen to strengthen their overall message of progress, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino issuing a fresh warning against hypocrisy.
When questioned about his views on the treatment of migrant workers and other controversies, Bellerin—who was left off of Luis Enrique’s 26-man World Cup roster—blasted FIFA.
“I feel sad that I’m not a part of it. However, there is a component of it that makes me happy, Bellerin said at the GQ Awards gala dinner, as quoted by Marca.
“I don’t know if I could bear the weight of 6,500 or more people who lost their lives constructing a World Cup,” the speaker said.
