Gary Cahill, a former Chelsea player, has announced his retirement from sport.

OFFICIAL: Gary Cahill, a former player for Chelsea, has declared his retirement from the game at the age of 36.

In a post on social media, the former England international, who has previously played for Aston Villa, Bolton, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth, verified the information.

At Stamford Bridge, where he played on Champions League and Premier League championship sides, Cahill had his greatest success.

In his statement, he stated: “As I decide to hang up my boots, I can honestly say that I gave it all I had. Football is a game that has brought me so much fun and success.

I’ve accomplished goals I once envisioned and made some unforgettable moments. From incredible highs like winning the Champions League and Premier League to the honor of leading my nation and Chelsea in a squad that won the FA Cup, these memories will last a lifetime.

I also want to express my gratitude for the wonderful connections I have made with individuals from the football community, including my teammates, managers, and the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes.

“Choosing to cease playing is not an easy option. I’ve spent the last 20 years working out every day to be in the greatest form possible on matchday so that I can contribute to the success of the teams I’ve played for.

“I’ve had time to think about my alternatives, and after careful thought and consideration, I believe that the timing is right to advance to the next phase of my career.”

A particular thank you must go to my incredible family, who have helped me and stood by my side throughout the whole process. Now that I have the chance, I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with them.
