At Real Madrid, Marco Asensio “is poised to remain” and sign a new contract.

Marco Asensio may be about to agree to a new deal with Real Madrid after changing his mind about his future.

Real Madrid declined to meet the 26-year-contract old’s demands, therefore the attacker was set to leave the Bernabeu on a free transfer the next summer.

There seemed to be little progress between the parties before the transfer window given that Ascensio would be free to talk terms with other teams starting in January. The Spanish international, though, may now continue to play for the team.

According to Marca, manager Carlo Ancelotti has a significant influence on the decision to restart talks between the two parties. The Italian manager supports Asensio fiercely and wants him to stay at Madrid.

After Asensio returns from the World Cup with Spain in a month, negotiations may resume, and he will give Real Madrid’s offer priority over those from other clubs. Madrid, on the other hand, has been pleased so far this season with the Spaniard’s determination to compete for a spot in the lineup and his acceptance of playing just a supporting role.

Asensio has started only one game for Real this season, a 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig in the Champions League that was of little consequence since Madrid had already advanced to the next round.

Ascensio has made a total of twelve appearances across all leagues this season, scoring twice for Ancelotti’s team.

In December 2014, he transferred from Real Mallorca to Real Madrid, where he spent the rest of the season on loan. After being loaned to Espanyol the following year, Asensio established himself in Madrid for the 2016–17 season.

The 29-cap Spanish player has accumulated three La Liga championships during his stay in the Spanish city, as well as three Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup victories.

Asensio was expected to depart Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 in search of a team where he would be a first-round selection. This 180-degree flip, though, would imply that he is content with his present position in the Real side.
