At Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez is anticipating the perfect frontline.

The front three that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez had intended to open the season with are still not able to be relied upon.

Ousmane Dembele, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha have so far been the most often used offensive front three. At least until the last week, when Xavi decided to strengthen the midfield and substituted the Brazilian with Gavi and Franck Kessie.

According to Sport, Xavi’s initial preseason strategy was for Ansu Fati to start as a striker on the left side of the attack. Ansu’s recuperation, however, took longer than anticipated, and even today, over three months into the season, she is still not fully recovered.

He was theoretically the ideal counterbalance for Lewandowski and would have given Barcelona more menace in the box than they presently have. The Polish striker is becoming more and more of a need for the Blaugrana.

The question would be if Ansu could reach his top speed. The forward has been moving more slowly than anticipated, which has been considered necessary as he attempts to avoid suffering another catastrophic injury. Ansu has only made three starts so far this season and hasn’t played a full 90 minutes.

Some worry that Ansu would not regain his prior level of fitness or acceleration. It is unclear how his body would react after missing almost a year of football at such a young age and for the second time in his career.
