At 39, Dani Alves will be the oldest captain of Brazil in World Cup history.

Dani Alves, a seasoned defender, will lead Brazil in their final group match against Cameroon on Friday and become the oldest World Cup captain in history.

According to rumors, the 39-year-old former Barcelona full-back was controversially selected for head coach Tite’s Qatar 2022 squad to serve as a minder for close friend Neymar.

As Tite gets ready to make changes, Alves, who currently plays for UNAM Pumas in Mexico, will take the captain’s armband. If they win against Cameroon, they will finish first in Group G, securing a guaranteed spot in the World Cup.

In his third World Cup finals, Alves, who overcame a knee injury, said: “For me, it represents the fact that I can wear the Brazil jersey.” Being here makes me feel really proud.

I’ve spent a lot of time with the Brazilian team, so being able to finish this cycle by competing in the World Cup makes me very happy.

Tite insisted he was not yet focused on a matchup with either Ghana, Portugal, or South Korea in the round of 16. Tite is anticipated to select either Juventus’ Danilo or Real Madrid’s Eder Militao ahead of Alves at right-back in the tournament’s later stages.

Tite said, “I do not have time to be focusing on the bigger picture because we have 26 great players.”
