Manchester City are locked in a fierce battle at the top of the Premier League with Liverpool, but Guardiola has devised a scenario that would see the Blues come out on top

Manchester City can go back to the top of the Premier League table with victory over Chelsea today, but Pep Guardiola has revealed what the Blues have to do to stay there.

Victory at the Etihad this afternoon will put City ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, although Jurgen Klopp’s side still have a game in hand.

City have 12 games left in the Premier League to try and defend the title they won last season and Guardiola believes taking maximum points from the run-in will be enough to usurp Liverpool.

Asked if winning all 12 games would be enough to win the league, the City boss said: “Yes. If you win 12 games we’ll win the Premier League, I’m pretty sure. The problem is we’re not going to win 12 games. It’s a lot of games, we’re going to drop points, hopefully the others will drop [points] too.”

If City do defend their Premier League title it will be another medal for Guardiola’s collection, having won almost everything there is to win during spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City.

But the Catalan isn’t one to get his medals out at home and admire them.

Asked where he keeps his trophy haul in an interview with Soccer AM, Guardiola said: “I don’t know, at home, at my mum and dad’s. I keep it but I don’t where they are. There are many.

“I have good memories of what we’ve won but I’m not sat in front of the trophy’s polishing them. Good memories of the special relations with the guys on the way we work, that’s satisfying.”
