Youths Start A 14-day Countrywide Protest As TUC Issues A Notice.

If the situation does not improve by the weekend, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will start mobilizing its members, students, and supporters in civil society for a suitable reaction to the present shortage of naira notes.

Festus Osifo, the TUC president, revealed this yesterday in Abuja while discussing the lack of naira notes and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The TUC leadership will be actively monitoring the situation within the time period of our ultimatum, according to Osifo, and will issue further instructions if things don’t get better. All associate unions, state councils, civil society organizations, businesspeople, educators, market participants, and religious leaders are now placed on high alert.

“We are interested in the government adopting actions that would lessen the people’s suffering,” Osifo said. We don’t want to seem to be siding with any of the previously stated points of view.

“There are some who are in favor of the new naira and others who are against to it. For the record, the TUC is not concerned about right and wrong. We just care that there is money and PMS accessible.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has also announced plans for youths to stage a national demonstration over the shortage of petrol and the naira.

The demonstration will take place from now until February 24, 2023.

In addition, the youths demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari fire the general managing director (GMD) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari, as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, the minister of state for petroleum resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.
