We Are Removing Minors From Our Voter Rolls. – Inec

The Independent National Electoral Commission has notified Nigerians that the commission has started removing information on minor voters from the records of registered voters.

Festus Okoye, the INEC commissioner for information and voter education, revealed this in a late-Friday interview with Channels TV.

When asked what the commission was doing in regards to non-Nigerians and minors voting, Okoye said, “On the subject of the minors voting, this commission published the whole registered voters in Nigeria in different local government areas and all the registration areas.

“People have voiced their criticisms, grievances, and accusations. The voter list is currently being updated by the commission. Cleaning up is a continuous process, and we’ll do all in our power to ensure that the voter list for the general election in 2023 is one that Nigerians can be proud of.

“Only legitimately registered voters will be permitted to cast ballots in the general election of 2023 on behalf of non-Nigerians. When Immigration Service notices a non-Nigerian presenting a voter’s card while claiming to be from Nigeria, they should detain him, hand over the voter’s card to INEC, and delete the corresponding registrations.

Nigerians should thus remain vigilant. They should notify security services if any non-Nigerian approaches any voting unit.
