The All Progressives Congress will hold its presidential campaign rally at Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, thanks to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike (APC).
At a press conference on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Tony Okocha, the State Coordinator of the APC campaign council, made this announcement and said that the event, scheduled for February 15, 2023, is intended to solicit support for the Party’s flagbearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The APC leader said that Wike, acting in good faith, permitted the stadium’s usage without first obtaining the N5 million needed by Executive Order 21 from the campaign council.
“Wike has approved the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, as a substitute location for the presidential campaign rally set for February 15, 2023, with his customary generosity.
However, given the violence seen at previous rallies held by the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, a formal assurance of the safety and security of the facilities at the location must be issued.
Okocha said that all preparations had been made to host Tinubu and other prominent APC figures in the state and to guarantee a smooth rally.
He revealed that an 11-man committee had been formed to plan and guarantee the rally’s successful hosting, and he said that the state’s campaign committee had done its due diligence to assure Tinubu’s victory there.
