Police Detain 18 Rape Suspects And Other Suspects In Borno

18 people have been detained by the Borno Police Command for rape, vandalism, and possession of dangerous weapons in the state’s Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Council.

In the first two weeks of January 2023, the arrests were made. The police commissioner, Abdu Umar, said the following about the suspects yesterday in Maiduguri: “Either you repent or be captured and face the wrath of law,

He said that “no person or group of people is authorized to violate the basic rights of others,” adding that these rights include the right to life and the right to possess property.

No apprehended suspect will be released in any area of the state, he said. According to Umar, Abdullahi Mohammed was detained by the Crack Operatives on January 18, 2023, as a result of a tip-off about the suspected theft of a solar inverter worth N2 million.

However, after being questioned, the suspect admitted to taking it from Musa Ajakuta at a solar borehole in the Njimtilo hamlet. The thieves also damaged a 50 megawatt gas-powered plant in Maiduguri, the state capital, he said.

Before the accused were prosecuted in court, he claimed that all of the atrocities perpetrated by the suspects had been properly examined.

Furthermore, he stated that Tujja Ali, 18, and Modu Bilal, 19, who were in possession of 283 pieces of bolts and nuts, had engaged in criminal conspiracy, damage, and theft of government property.

He said that it was claimed that the stolen materials became free when the high tension electrical tower along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road was taken down.

He said that the suspects admitted that this was their second time executing the same crime after selling the first item they had stolen to Mele in Benisheikh.

He said that steps were being taken to locate the stolen power supplies in conjunction with Mele’s arrest. “One Sunusi Abubakar, 20, from the Shuwari neighborhood spotted some lads roaming around the area and sighted several youngsters who named themselves the Karangiya gang,” he added in reference to criminal conspiracy and public disturbances using hazardous weapons.

They began hitting Mohammed Alhaji Bukar as his buddy fled, he said, brandishing clubs and cutlasses. “Ali Bukar, 18, of the Al-Miskin IDP camp used a knife and tried to chop off the victim’ head,” he said, “while pounding the victim to escape for his life.”
