Police Detain 18 Rape Suspects And Other Suspects In Borno

18 people have been detained by the Borno Police Command for rape, vandalism, and possession of dangerous weapons in the state’s Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Council.

He said that “no person or group of people is authorized to violate the basic rights of others,” adding that these rights include the right to life and the right to possess property.

No apprehended suspect will be released in any area of the state, he said. According to Umar, Abdullahi Mohammed was detained by the Crack Operatives on January 18, 2023, as a result of a tip-off about the suspected theft of a solar inverter worth N2 million.

However, after being questioned, the suspect admitted to taking it from Musa Ajakuta at a solar borehole in the Njimtilo hamlet. The thieves also damaged a 50 megawatt gas-powered plant in Maiduguri, the state capital, he said.

He said that the suspects admitted that this was their second time executing the same crime after selling the first item they had stolen to Mele in Benisheikh.
