Orji Uzor Kalu Declares That It Is Now His Turn To Preside Over The Senate.

Orji Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Senate, has announced that he would run for Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.

This was revealed by Kalu on Tuesday while addressing reporters at the National Assembly. Kalu was re-elected to serve as Abia North’s representative in the Red Chamber.

Having won 57 seats, the governing All Progressives Congress still has a majority in the Senate.

Senators from the APC who want to lead the Senate have been pleading with their colleagues for help.

Along with Kalu, who has officially shown interest in the role, other candidates said to be considering running include Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Sani Musa (Niger), Barau Jibrin (Kano), and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi).

The final contenders for the job will be chosen in great part by zoning.

The APC leadership insisted that the Senate presidency has not been designated.

According to some experts, it is possible that the APC would zone the seat to the South in order to maintain a balance of power, especially because its Muslim-Muslim ticket has angered other groups, particularly the Christian community.

As a senior legislator from the South East, Kalu informed reporters that it was his time to lead the Senate.

It’s my time to lead the Senate, he said. Team Nigeria will be my allegiance if I am elected Senate President. I want to work anywhere in Nigeria.

In Maiduguri, Borno State, I attended school. I launched my company in Lagos and expanded it to other state capitals. Team Nigeria will be both my last name and my first name.

“Keep in mind that I’m the only past governor who hasn’t changed his or her phone number in more over 20 years. I’m still prepared to continue using that phone number to take all of my calls. Since I’m the Senate President, I won’t turn off my phones.

Since it’s my time, I’m hoping Nigerians would pray for me to lead the Senate.
