Opc Wants Non-indigenous Voters In S’west To Do So Without Fear.

Nigerians are being urged by the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) to see the next general elections as a typical battle between brothers, free from any threat of violence.

The late Frederick Fasehun faction of the congress made the remarks in response to social media accusations that certain Yoruba self-determination organizations had organized a campaign of violence against non-indigenous voters in Lagos and other South West states during the general elections.

Wasiu Afolabi, the organization’s president, encouraged people to participate in campaigns and elections without worrying about harassment, intimidation, or violence.

“Anyone discovered intending to stir disturbance or conduct violence should be handled as a criminal and turned over to law enforcement forces for punishment,” the president said in a statement released by OPC General Secretary Bunmi Fasehun.

“We will zealously maintain the tranquility we now have in the South West. This tranquil atmosphere has been tremendously aided by OPC, and we will take no action to threaten it. Whether he is a Yoruba guy or not, whomever is organizing election violence would have to deal with OPC. Any scheme, effort, or action designed to intimidate voters or prevent anybody from freely expressing their democratic preference will not be tolerated.

He thinks that politics shouldn’t be a life-or-death endeavor, therefore OPC won’t support such politics or be used to carry out the evil schemes of politicians.

“We have reputable businessmen and businesswomen, graduates, craftsmen, students at colleges and universities, as well as Muslim and Christian clergy, among our number. Before, during, or after the elections, our organization will not be utilized for political intimidation, he said.
