Abdulwahab Babankanti, a reporter for the NTA, and his three pals were abducted, but their captors returned them unharmed.
According to information obtained, the four captives were released on February 1, 2023, when their family complied with the kidnappers’ demands.
The victims were taken by suspected gunmen while traveling from Bauchi to Jos along a highway. The males, according to family sources, were hauled up in the Toro town in Bauchi State.
We learned of their kidnapping when the kidnappers phoned to confirm that they had taken them and that they were alive and well in their possession, a family source who requested anonymity said.
According to the source, the kidnappers sought a N10 million ransom.
The source said, “As though the kidnappers were sensing the financial strain that Nigerians are experiencing with the recent currency crisis, they phoned again on Wednesday telling the family to forget the N10m but instead search for a significant sum since they realize that things are bad.”
The kidnappers freed their hostages to a location where they could find their way home after being paid an unknown significant sum by the family.
