INEC Sets April 15 As The Date For The Additional Governorship And Legislative Elections.

The additional national, state, and local assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, who made this announcement, explained that the decision was made by the electoral umpire after it met yesterday to review areas where supplementary elections are necessary to finish pending elections nationwide.

The verdict comes only one week after Kebbi and Adamawa states’ gubernatorial elections were deemed to be invalid.

Okoye repeated that results for the 26 governorship, 104 senate, 329 federal, and 935 state constituencies have been announced.

He declared that the states of Adamawa and Kebbi, five senatorial districts, 31 federal seats, and 58 state assembly constituencies will all have additional gubernatorial elections.

Okoye said that only a small number of polling places in certain districts will host additional polls as a result of the competitiveness of the elections, particularly for parliamentary seats.

On or before March 29, 2023, he said, “Our website will provide a detailed list of the polling units by State, Local Government, Registration Area, registered voters, and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) acquired.

We request that all candidates, political parties, and other interested parties pay attention to the dates and places of the supplemental elections.

For the additional elections, the previous accreditation for observers, polling and collation agents, and the media is still valid.

“The Commission reiterates its call to see the exercise as an election and not a conflict among political parties, candidates, and their followers. They should refrain from making inflammatory remarks and engaging in counterproductive mobilization so that the polls may proceed and be completed on time.
