Immigration Saves 11 Victims Headed For Libya

The Nigeria Immigration Service has prevented the shipment of eleven human trafficking victims to Libya (NIS).

The victims, all young women, were detained while traveling to Libya from the Niger Republic and returned to Nigeria before being turned over to the National Agency for the Prevention of Trafficking in People (NAPTIP) in Sokoto for further action.

The victims were hauled in by the NIS Ilela command before being turned over to NAPTIP, according to a statement from the service’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Tony Akuneme.

Ado Rano Sabo, the Illela Border Command’s Comptroller of Immigration, revealed that the young ladies come from various regions of the nation and range in age from 19 to 37.

Sabo urged Nigerians to refrain from making such dangerous excursions, stressing that the majority of victims end up being utilized for organ or labor exploitation or prostitution.
