G-5 Govs Divided, Might Support Several Candidates On Election Night

There are signs that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) G-5 Integrity Group would announce its position on the presidential candidates a few hours before the poll on February 25, 2023.

As promised in January, the group of five governors, headed by Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, declined to openly support any of the presidential contenders.

Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu are more group members (Abia). Wike and his group “strategically altered their minds” from announcing their presidential candidate in January, according to a source close to one of the governors, because of “some recent political development.”

“You know they’re politicians and they have to respond to certain unexpected situations,” he remarked. However, they will let their followers know how to vote around a day before the election. Additionally, don’t anticipate them to broadcast the news, but their fans will understand it.

Following the nomination of former vice president Atiku Abubakar as the PDP’s presidential candidate, the G-5 has been engaged in a protracted conflict with the party over Iyorchia Ayu’s unwillingness to step down as national chairman of the party.

Iyorchia’s continuing tenure as the party’s national chairman, according to Wike and his supporters, is in violation of the federal character clause and the party’s power rotation concept, both of which are incorporated in the 1999 Constitution.

The troubled PDP governors may have been obliged to remain mute and let each to endorse any of the candidates since they were unable to collectively support a presidential candidate, according to The Guardian’s investigations.
