Five are being sought by NSCDC for damaging bridges over roads in the FCT

The Intelligence and Investigations Crack Squad (IICS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) headquarters in Abuja has detained five members of a syndicate thought to be damaging important national infrastructure and assets, including stealing manhole covers and galvanized iron pipes.

The five were detained as a result of credible information and surveillance carried out by the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DII) Crack Squad from the National Headquarters of the Corps with the assistance of other stakeholders, according to a statement from the Corps Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Olusola Odumosu.

Following widespread ongoing vandalism of manhole covers, bridges, and other similar infrastructures, Associate Professor Ahmed Audi, Commandant General of the Corps, stated that the arrest is part of a renewed commitment to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Remember how Audi instructed his staff to work harder to put a stop to the ongoing destruction and theft of manhole covers from roadways in the FCT?

Vandals are being warned to “desist from this nefarious act of vandalizing galvanized pipes and aluminum used in the construction and reinforcement of bridges or risk arrest and possible jail terms as security is beefed up around those public utilities by the eagle-eyed operatives of the Corps,” according to the warning.

The CG also urged individuals to work with security authorities to ensure the safety and protection of persons and public property by providing pertinent information to the Corps or other security agencies as soon as someone or a group of people are seen damaging them.
