Fg Forms Panel To Look At Alleged Impunity In Anti-terrorism Campaign

The Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in Counter-Insurgency Operations in North East Nigeria (SIIP North East) was established by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) yesterday to look into claims of impunity in the area.

While launching the team in Abuja, its Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu (SAN), encouraged the members, who were recruited from important professional organisations, to put in a lot of effort to fulfill the terms of reference.

Do you have these safety measures on your car? Otherwise it is worthless.

Abdu Aboki, a former Supreme Court justice, is in charge of the panel, which has the following mandate: “Investigate allegations of gross violations of national and international human rights laws/principles alleged against the Nigerian Armed Forces in the three Reuters reports (Sections 5(a)(b)(j) and 6(1)(a) of the NHRC Act, 2010).”

Receive memos from people and organizations interested in the SIIP North East’s mission, particularly those working in the region’s human rights, security, and humanitarian sectors.

According to Section 5(j) of the NHRC Act 2010, “Make appropriate decisions as to the responsibility of persons or organizations as may be judged required in each situation.”
