Edo Demands A Vigilante Network To Improve The Safety Of People And Property

The State Security Vigilante Network’s members have been ordered by the Edo State Government to guarantee the safety of people and property, abstain from violence, and carry out their tasks in accordance with the law.

The graduation of “Batch A” trainees of the network, consisting of 574 operatives drawn from the six local councils of Edo North, who completed a two-week intensive training session at the Police Training School, Ogida, Benin City, was addressed by Mr. Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

The training concentrated on handling weapons, collecting information, protecting human rights, and other modules designed to better prepare the operators in carrying out their responsibilities.

“You have not been taught to go out and terrorize your town, but to support the operations of the state security council,” the deputy governor remarked. It is also your responsibility to educate the public and keep an eye on all government facilities. You must follow the policies, guidelines, and directives that have been established for you.

You must also cooperate with the chiefs of your village and community, protect the land, and avoid any negative, he said. Keep in mind that none of you are above the law. The police cannot be everywhere, therefore they must be at key locations, guarding people and property, and they can only be successful to the degree that we can all provide them with the information they need.

This is the rationale for the creation of the Edo State Security Vigilante Network, said Shaibu. We’ve begun keeping track of our victories. Until we reach a situation where everyone may go about without any restrictions, sleep well, and where private investment is encouraged, we are not there yet.

“Edo State is now one of Nigeria’s safest states. We have a governor who has been able to bring us all together to the point where we prioritize security. There can be no investment without security.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Dantawaye Miller, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dankwara, asked the graduates to collaborate with the local Police Divisions.

“I implore you to collaborate closely with your Divisional Police Offices,” he urged. When there are arrests, get in touch with your DPOs for advice on what to do to comply with the law. Additionally, avoid becoming a tool for land acquisition.

ACP Bamidele Awoniyi, the Commandant of the Police Training School, asked the graduating agents to support everyone in their communities in order to succeed as anticipated in their endeavors.

Col. Oshoriamhe Omomia (Rtd), the ESN coordinator, expressed confidence that the organization would increase community security.
