Bawa, The Head Of The Efcc, Is Sentenced To Jail Once Again For Disrespect.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was jailed for allegedly defying a court order.

The court also ordered Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, to arrest Bawa and detain him in Kuje jail for the next 14 days, or until he absolves himself of the contempt.

In his verdict from yesterday, Justice R.O. Ayoola of the Kogi State High Court approved the EFCC chairman’s request to be sent to jail for ignoring a court order issued on November 30, 2022, ordering him to produce the case’s petitioner, Ali Bello.

After the court ruled in Bello’s favor after his wrongful arrest and detention, the EFCC filed charges against Bawa for suspected money laundering three days later.

The EFCC’s requests for the verdict to be set aside and for a stay of execution were denied for lack of merit.

The court had ordered the EFCC chairman to appear before it on January 18, 2022 to explain why he should not be imprisoned for disobeying the order issued on December 12, 2022 in a case brought by Ali Bello against the EFCC and Bawa, who were the first and second respondents, respectively. The notice was sent in Form 49, Order IX, Rule 13, marked, “HCL/697M/2022,” and entitled, “Notice to Show Cause Why Order of Committal Should Not

The motion of notice and Form 49 were to be served by substituted methods on the EFCC and Bawa, the court ruled.
