Atiku Threatens Regular Demonstrations And Rallies Supporters To Inec.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, yesterday led party stalwarts and supporters in a protest march to the INEC offices in Abuja, days after declaring his intention to contest the results of the polls on February 25.
The phrase “Save our democracy from INEC” is written on placards. In order to protest the outcome of the election won by the candidate of the ruling party, demonstrators marched from Legacy House, the PDP presidential campaign office, through the British High Commission in Abuja, the National University Commission (NUC) office, and finally to the Maitama office of the electoral umpire. PDP governors and key party leaders, including Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman, Uche Secondus, the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Senator Dino Melaye, were among the demonstrators.
Ahead of Atiku, who received 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who received 6,101,533 votes, Tinubu was proclaimed the winner by INEC on Wednesday.
Atiku and party officials, who were dressed in black, restated their prior rejection of the results, stating that the poll was tainted by irregularities and that they will contest it in court.
Also, the party issued a letter of complaint to INEC, which was received by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education.
When Okoye received the petition, Atiku had previously said that the party would continue its daily protest for a considerable amount of time and that the action would not prevent them from filing a lawsuit to contest the election’s results.
We are demonstrating, and we have every right to do so, he said. We still go to court in spite of that. Maybe every day or every other day, we will demonstrate for a very long period.
