At 141 Bayelsa voting locations, INEC postpones the election.

Elections at 141 polling places in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have been delayed by Mahmood Yakubu, head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Wards 4, 6, 8, and 14 had disruptions to the voting process, according to Yakubu, who also noted that “40 out of 141 polling stations have materials intact.” Yakubu made these remarks while addressing media at the collation center in Abuja.

The commission opted to postpone the poll after INEC’s ad hoc employees voiced uncertainty about returning to administer the election, he said, adding that the matter is now under control.

The electoral board has also decided to hold the poll tomorrow, on February 26, according to INEC’s chairman.

In four wards—wards 4,6,8,14, including 141 voting units—in Bayelsa state, namely in the capital of Yenogoa, the process was interrupted, according to Yakubu.

“We reorganized security, and now that things are quiet, we can go through with the procedure. The youth corps participants, however, admitted to having some reservations about returning.

So, after consulting with security authorities, it was determined that voting would go place tomorrow morning at the 141 polling places where the voting materials are still present. Keep in mind that we are also handling the sénatorial and federal seats in addition to the presidential election.

“So, it’s important to bounce back and hold the elections so that we can wrap up the procedures. The polls will be held tomorrow morning, according to the youth corps members who are acting as presiding officers and other commission employees.

He further said that attackers stormed several polling places and that at least eight BVAS machines were taken around the nation.

Voting was delayed in a portion of Niger State owing to a bandit raid in the region, although Yakubu said that backup BVAS machines had been delivered.
