Apc And Pdp Argue About An Explosion During A Rally In Port Harcourt

The explosion that happened at the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) governorship campaign event in Port Harcourt last Thursday has caused a major rift between the party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

Sogbeye Eli, the spokesperson for the APC 2023 Campaign Council, told reporters yesterday in Port Harcourt that thugs from the PDP group loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike were responsible for the assault on party members.

Ogbonna Nwuke, the State PDP Campaign Council’s director of publicity and communications, quickly responded by claiming that the APC’s assertions were untrue and reiterating that the PDP was unaware of anything that occurred during the event.

Recall that after initial altercations with youths from the Rmuwoji community who were alleged to have prevented the party’s supporters from accessing the community town hall in Mile 1, Port Harcourt City local council, some supporters of the APC sustained various degrees of injuries after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded during a rally organized by the party.

Eli said that as the gathering began at the traditional grounds of Rumuwoji Town, armed thugs attacked their party’s campaign without warning.

“We desire to say unambiguously that no portion, section, or paragraph of Wike’s repugnant Executive Orders 21 and 22, which strangulate opposition party political campaigns in Rivers State, bans the usage of traditional squares or grounds in our cities and villages,” he stated.
