According To Gov. Adeleke, Banks Should Cease Giving Out Obsolete Notes To Clients.

The governor of Osun, Ademola Adeleke, has urged commercial banks in the state not to continue distributing old naira notes to consumers if they do not intend to return them as deposits.

This was said in a statement released on Monday in Osogbo by his spokesman, Malam Olawale Rasheed.

The governor expressed concern about how commercial banks are mistreating state people by refusing to take outdated currency notes even after customers had been paid with them.

Adeleke said that he had received several complaints from clients of banks who accused the institutions of forbidding the deposit of outdated currencies and the ensuing detrimental effects on the general public.

“I’ve had a number of calls from Bank clients all around the state. For the state’s citizens, the intentional reluctance of banks to accept old currencies is causing major financial difficulties.

“It is absolutely wrong for banks to issue old notes while refusing to take old notes as deposits.

Nonetheless, the governor urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to instruct the state’s banks to fix the errors.

“It is explicitly urged that the CBN state director order the banks to stop engaging in this dangerous activity.

“Banks must cease providing old notes for withdrawal if they won’t accept them as deposits. Our people must no longer suffer the way they are doing now, he remarked.
