137 People Are Detained In Niger By The NDLEA

137 drug suspects have been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) Niger Command.

Additionally, the agency said on Saturday in Minna that it would burn 21 tonnes of psychoactive and narcotic narcotics in the state in 2022.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna, Mr. Haruna Kwetishe, the State Commander, NDLEA, made this announcement.

According to our scorecard for 2022, the NDLEA Niger Command arrested 137 individuals in total, 135 of which were men and two of whom were women.

Including 5,656.3 kilos of cannabis sativa, the command also destroyed 21 tonnes of psychoactive drugs, the official said.

According to Kwetishe, the command also confiscated 15.87 litres of codeine and other psychoactive drugs during the time under consideration.

“By burning them, it implies that the unlawful substances can never go back to the society again,” he added, adding that this has helped the command eliminate these narcotics from circulation.

At the Federal High Court in Minna, the command, according to him, obtained 80 convictions. The prisoners were then given a range of imprisonment sentences.

The NDLEA leader said that the command would always remember the reviewed year since it was recognized twice as the finest State headquarters for drug demand reduction by the agency’s national headquarters.

He claimed that 275 drug misuse suspects had received counseling, rehabilitation, and social reintegration.

Additionally, he claimed that nine drug addicts who had been brought in by their parents had been successfully counseled and placed back with their families.

He said that the agency has obtained a court order requiring it to destroy five tonnes of hard narcotics in 2023.

We will invite the press and the general public for that purpose at the proper time, he added.

Kwetishe gave the populace assurances that the agency will eradicate drug misuse and illegal trafficking from the state.

He issued a warning to drug lords and dealers to stay away from the state.
