Two suspected terrorists were detained in Abuja estate

On Monday, October 24, agents of the Department of State Services detained two terror suspects in Trademore Estate in Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory’s Lugbe neighborhood.

Acting on a tip, DSS attacked the estate, closed the gates at the entry and exit, and then arrested the suspects, who were reportedly siblings.

Residents of the estate, according to Punch, believe that DSS agents and a few American troops carried out the operation.

“When our estate was shut up, we were inside our homes. We were not permitted to leave, and no one was permitted to enter. DSS and a few American troops arrived for the operation. I was informed that they were searching for certain alleged terrorists. All we noticed after they completed their work was that they drove out with a few residents of the estate, according to a local who requested anonymity.

Additionally, a Whatsapp message advised folks to be watchful and get to know their neighbors. It read in part.

The fact that our estate was completely shut down as a result of a powerful sting operation that took place in Phase 3 this afternoon is no longer news. The American Army and our DSS team worked together to solve the problem.

We are unable to provide complete information on the motivation(s) for the operation, but we can confirm that there was a claim of terrorist activity. Every homeowner has a grave responsibility to practice vigilantism, get to know their neighbors, and alert authorities to any suspicious persons, movements, or activities.

We will continue to make every effort to maintain the estate secure for everyone. There should be zero tolerance for anybody evading their responsibilities for security.

Yet to corroborate this development is the DSS. After the US issued a terror risk notice for Nigeria, namely Abuja, this arrest happened a few hours later.
