Tinubu: I could not have found a better running partner than Shettima

All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu thinks Kashim Shettima would be the best choice for his running mate.

The former governor of Lagos State brought up this on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting with the CAN’s leadership.

Recall that Shettima received criticism and condemnation from a number of sources, including CAN, when Tinubu chose him to be his running mate in July.

However, Senator Kashim Shettima was named as Tinubu’s running mate in a statement provided by his media adviser, Tunde Rahman, who insisted that Shettima was selected because he is the best person to support Tinubu’s administration.

“I’ll admit something. I chose Senator Shettima mostly based on who would best assist me in leading. Politically speaking, it would have been simpler to choose a Christian running partner. But the simple route isn’t always the best one. The choice of a running partner is both a monumental and a very personal one, according to Tinubu.

I didn’t choose Senator Shettima to run on a ticket with me based on our shared religious beliefs. The ticket was designed to adhere to the same progressive and populist worldview.

It didn’t set right with me to base such an important choice on a person’s religious membership as the main consideration. I don’t want to imply that there weren’t worthy candidates for the Christian religion.

“What I’m trying to say is that the good and adequate do not lend themselves to the times we live in. Our pressing issues do not lend themselves to Christian or Muslim solutions. We require the ideal answer.

“I thought about it a lot, and every time I did, I always came to the same conclusion: Kashim Shettima.”
