Stop Inciting Members of ASUU, Falana Tells FG

Femi Falana (SAN), a well-known human rights activist, has asked the Federal Government to quit inflaming the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over a pay dispute.

This was said by Falana on Tuesday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television.

He insisted that the academics be compensated for the months they were on strike with their full pay.

Recall that between February and October of this year, ASUU members were on strike, which severely hampered academic operations at public institutions all throughout Nigeria.

On October 14, when the National Industrial Court (NIC) ordered the professors to return work, ASUU called off their eight-month strike.

ASUU members were upset when the Federal Government only paid half pay for the month of October.

The professors were paid in accordance with the days they worked during the specified month, according to the Federal Government’s explanation.

On Tuesday, Falana, an attorney for ASUU, commented on the situation.

“ASUU members are not subject to the ‘no work, no pay’ tenet.

We are asking all Nigerians who pushed ASUU to end the strike to do so again because “we all have a responsibility to insist on the government to cease agitating the academics,” the statement reads.
