Police report a failed kidnapping attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

The attempted kidnapping of commuters on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday night, October 28, has been verified by the Oyo state police command.

According to a statement made by SP Adewale Osifeso, the state police command’s spokesman, operatives of the command assigned to the toll-gate division got information of intermittent gunshots fired at the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 6.35 pm on Friday.

He said that the police officers and other security personnel collaborated to stop the assault. He said that during the gunfight, an officer who was part of the command died.

The Divisional Police Officer quickly organized a team made up of local hunters, tactical teams, police mobile personnel, and anti-crime patrol personnel to provide immediate assistance and subsequent assistance.

An officer connected to the Command paid the ultimate price while dealing with what was clearly an abduction situation, while another was seriously hurt and is now responding to treatment.

Exhausted ammunition rounds and (4) Four abandoned automobiles were found at the location, according to Osifeso.

He said that the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Deputy Commissioner, who is in charge of the investigation, has been tasked with directing a full-scale investigation into the incident under the direction of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams.

Caretakers, Traditional Healers, and Residents within and outside of the shooting event are asked to keep an eye out for gunshot victims and to report any unusual activity to the police right away so that it may be investigated.
