Okowa grants compensation to flood victims

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state’s Isoko South Council who were affected by the floods will now receive stipends, according to the Delta State Government.

Hundreds of flood victims in Isoko communities were left without the promised funds, as you may recall.

After the demonstration, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Patrick Ukah, declared that the government was prepared to compensate every legitimate IDP but urged them to exercise patience while waiting for the payment.

In a statement made available to The Guardian in Asaba yesterday, Ukah claimed that the government was aware of the difficulties that IDPs faced, which is why Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had approved the payment of stipends to them as they left the camps.

He stated that eligible singles, male or female, would receive N40,000.00 to help mitigate the effects of the flood, while each family captured, including the father, mother, and children, would receive N100,000.00.

IDPs from the Oleh camp who hadn’t yet received their stipends were urged by Ukah to be patient because efforts were being made to pay them after their records were verified.
