Man Cautions Against Using Nigeria As A Garbage Dump.
Giandomenico Massari, National Vice President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), has cautioned against using Nigeria as a “dumping ground” for inferior goods, claiming that doing so is the quickest way to wreck the economy and eliminate employment.
Few people benefit from a downsized economy, Massari bemoaned, while the remainder experience job loss, the FX crisis, inflation, crime, and instability, among other negative effects.
The Italian-born naturalized Nigerian with 45 years of experience in electrical and electronic engineering professions stated yesterday in Port Harcourt: “Nigeria has been flooded with subpar goods that do not contribute value to the economy.”
We need an economy that manufactures almost all imported goods in excellent quality, he said. Nigeria already produces several things of excellent quality, thus practically all of its products may be of the same caliber.
He urged the governments to take action and combat dumping in order to sustain their economies and avert a general catastrophe brought on by the ongoing loss of employment for young people.
He asserts that Nigeria should focus on being an exporter and on learning how to imitate China’s success since it has so much potential, particularly in terms of labor and other resources.
To do this, according to Massari, “all parties must strive toward the same objective. Private interests should not obstruct this course and redirect the benefits. Change must be directed here, generating public interest rather than private interest.
“Things need to be sanitized, and Nigerian manufacturing needs to grow. This is not occurring right now.
He said that Nigeria may potentially develop into a major centre for manufacturing, where businesses could produce anything at a low cost to produce goods that would be competitive both for export and the domestic market.
He said that this would help the nation by generating not just employment but also values and foreign money (forex), which would flood the nation. By doing this, you benefit both the populace and the economy. There should be advocacy in this, and everyone should support MAN as a crucial economic pillar.
He said that the reason he joined MAN in 1997 was to promote Nigeria as a center for manufacturing, and he continued, “My purpose for participating in the activities of MAN is to promote the organization that caters to manufacturers and to help it to promote manufacturing.”
The goal is to produce high-quality goods while also making sure that all production-related systems are safeguarded and improved.
He said that he would create a database for the organization and added that in today’s business and planning environment, data is important. “My first responsibility is to compile a database of the members, including information about what they do, what they can create, their qualifications, etc.
