If Nigeria switches from consumption to production, it would be great.

Nigeria must switch from consumption to production, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, if it is to achieve greatness.

On Friday, Osinbajo made the remarks during a national innovation workshop hosted by the Senate Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation in Awka, Anambra State.

Henry Ikoh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, who was standing in for the vice president, said that the federal government would continue to support innovation while urging inventors to consider commercializing their ideas.

Sen. Uche Ekwunife’s senate committee was praised for its enthusiasm and noted that the workshop provided Nigerians with a rare opportunity to rebrand the country’s innovation ecosystem with a focus on technology and entrepreneurship.

As you may know, the vice president’s office has promoted the use of cutting-edge technology as a vital tool for accelerating social and economic development in Nigeria. By thinking creatively, innovating, and, of course, commercializing ideas, the gap between the affluent and the poor may be closed.

“Nigeria won’t become great unless we start to move away from being a consuming country. The only option is to depend solely on production.

“This workshop’s successful conclusion will undoubtedly change the narrative from one of a dependent nation to one of a self-sufficient one, as well as encourage innovation and social and economic benefit. I want to reassure you all that the federal government will keep working to promote innovation, science, and technology.

Speaking on the topic of “Promotion of Local Inventors of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI),” Ekwunife, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized how technology and innovation have continued to alter the course of human history and bring unprecedented prosperity to all who benefit from it.

“I am convinced that Nigeria has a wealth of human capital and the ability to produce the innovations and inventions that are required to end poverty and bring about prosperity with double-digit GDP growth.

It’s encouraging to see that our new development strategy, the Economic Recovery and Growth plan, has acknowledged the crucial role that STI plays in all of the country’s economic endeavors, she continued.

According to her, Nigeria is ready to transition from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy that is driven by creativity and innovation thanks to the STI sector, which is governed by the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, Senator Pius Anyim, a former president of the Senate and secretary to the government of the Federation, and Uche Okafor, the speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, were among those present at the workshop.

The state government has made it a policy to support local inventors, according to Soludo, who urged Nigerians to develop the habit of doing the same.
