Hoodlums Burn Down INEC Office in Ogun

According to reports, hoodlums set fire to an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Iyana Mortuary, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Daily Trust said that eight or so criminals scaled the fence to gain entry to the site and set the INEC facility on fire. They reportedly doused bread loaves with gasoline before hurling them at the building.

Azeez Hamzat, the facility’s security guard, allegedly phoned the police around one in the morning on November 10 to express his concerns.

Firefighters extinguished the fire while Ibara division police were called to the site.

The conference room and the office of the Registration Area Officer were also impacted by the blaze. Additionally, it was discovered that non-sensitive goods were impacted.

Niyi Ijalaye, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, stated:

“It’s true that our workplace was burned down. Police are looking into it. I’m at a loss for words. I’m also in disbelief. In the evening, we dialed the police and other security services. The situation was brought under control by the fire department. The extent of the harm is currently being evaluated.

“It is frightening and improper. The security organizations are making every effort. We will get together once again later today to develop more plans (for safeguarding our premises).
