Full November salaries are paid to ASUU, and arrears are withheld.

The PUNCH can confirm that lecturers employed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities have been paid in full for the month of November 2022.

Additionally, our source learned that the Federal Government continued to hold back the eight-month arrears.

In an interview with our Abuja-based correspondent on Wednesday, a senior member of the union at Bayero University Kano disclosed this.

“Some of our members have begun receiving their pay, and I can attest that we received our full November salaries. The arrears are still not paid, nevertheless.

According to The PUNCH, the Federal Government refused to pay the lecturers on strike for the eight months that their union was on strike.

According to Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, the lecturers were also paid pro rata (half-pay) in October 2022.

The PUNCH had learned exclusively from a senior ASUU member who spoke to our correspondent in strict confidence that the lecturers were only paid for 18 working days in the month of October.

He told our correspondent that we had only been paid for the days following the strike. I was paid just half. Currently, other members are furious and blaming the NEC for ending the strike.

Educators from all throughout the nation have been demonstrating against this Federal Government decision.

The PUNCH also covered how, on October 14, 2022, ASUU ended its eight-month strike. The union pushed lecturers to start working again on that day.

In the upcoming days, the union’s National Executive Council is anticipated to hold a crucial meeting regarding the unpaid wages.
