DSS drops its lawsuit against Tukur Mamu, an ex-terrorist negotiator
On Thursday, the Department of State Services abandoned a lawsuit it had filed in Federal High Court Abuja to keep former terrorists’ negotiator Tukur Mamu in custody for an another 60 days after his detention.
A.M. Danlami, the DSS’s legal representative, informed Justice Nkeonye Maha soon after the case was summoned for hearing.
According to The News Agency of Nigeria, the case marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1619/2022 between SSS and Tukur Mamu was added to the list of causes for the day and will now continue.
The case has been overtaken by circumstances, according to Danlami, who requested to abandon the lawsuit at the restart of the hearing.
“My Lord, today is the scheduled hearing on this case. However, current events have surpassed the issue. We want to drop the lawsuit,” he said.
After receiving the application, Justice Maha dismissed the lawsuit.
“Use of the learner guidance is successful. The application is thus dismissed as withdrawn, she decided.
According to NAN, the security agency, acting via its attorney Ahmed Magaji, filed a request ex-parte on September 13 asking the court to order Mamu’s continued detention for 60 days in the interim while it completed its investigation.
The motion was dated and submitted on September 12 and was designated FHC/ABJ/CS/1617/2022.
It requested the court to approve its requests in order to allow it to wrap up its investigation into Mamu, who was in charge of negotiating the release of the passengers from the abducted train from Abuja to Kaduna in March.
Nearly six months after Boko Haram militants abducted passengers from an Abuja-Kaduna train, NAN reports that the remaining 23 abducted individuals were eventually released on October 5 as a result of Federal Government involvement.
On September 6, Mamu and his family members were detained in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, by foreign security personnel.
Mamu was stopped at Cairo International Airport before being returned to Nigeria while on route to Saudi Arabia for the smaller Hajj.
In the meanwhile, the DSS claimed in the affidavit in support of the ex-parte application that its preliminary investigation had shown the crimes committed by the logistic provider in encouraging terrorism against Mamu.
