Delta promises to assist Henry Nwosu, who is ill.

Yesterday, the Delta State Government promised to provide Henry Nwosu, a great football player, with both material and emotional help.

Nwosu, a talented midfielder, was the youngest player on Nigeria’s winning team in the 1980 African Nations Cup and served as the team’s face.

The former midfielder was hospitalized to a specialized facility for treatment of a heart-related condition. He was the only goal scorer for Nigeria in the 1980 Olympics.

When representatives of the state administration paid him a visit at the hospital, he was in good spirits.

Dr. Mordi Ononye, the state government’s commissioner for health, declared during the visit that they would do all in their power to help the injured football player.

He said that the Delta State Government will not forget his contributions to the nation as one of the legendary heroes of Nigeria.

“Your achievements and the significant part you played in our country’s development of football and sports in general will never be forgotten.

“The governor would have wanted to personally attend this event, but he is very committed in several national matters, particularly the campaigns of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of which he is the vice presidential candidate.

According to the information I received from the Chief Medical Director, you are exhibiting great recovery, and we are very delighted about that. “He has requested us to come and meet you, to see how you are doing and to guarantee that the medical staff here is doing their very best,” Ononye stated.

In response, the famed footballer’s younger sister, Mrs. Kate Kogolo, who was present at the hospital with him, said he was getting appropriate treatment and care and thanked the state government and other well-meaning Nigerians for their support.
