Attack on the Imo INEC headquarters is repelled by police

According to the Imo Police Command, it successfully repelled an assault on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) building in the Orlu LGA of Imo by alleged members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra.

The command also revealed that the criminals who attacked the INEC facility later retreated with gunshot wounds after being thoroughly routed by the command’s tactical team.

The assault was thwarted, according to Police Public Relations Officer CSP Mike Abatam, who issued a statement on Thursday on behalf of CP Mohammed Barde.

He said that the explosive device the thugs used to assault the office caused just little damage.

“On February 12, 2022, at around 4:30 a.m., a group of gunmen believed to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) gathered outside the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Orlu, Imo State.

They attempted to break into the office by throwing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from outside the fence and shooting erratically, but the ever-brave Imo Police Command’s Tactical Teams repulsed them.

“The hoodlums suffered a crushing defeat, with several of them receiving various bullet wounds, and after being suppressed by the police operatives who had positioned themselves strategically and professionally, they retreated.

No lives were lost during the attack’s derailment, and no weapons or ammo were taken.

“The explosives did not affect the INEC main building; instead, they only caused minor fire damage to the security post, which was quickly extinguished by police officers.
