ARCON cautions bloggers and skit creators to adhere to the advertising code.

Bloggers, skit creators, and influencers have been cautioned by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) to guarantee adherence to the Nigerian Code of Advertising Practice.

“ARCON has received complaints on the advertisement, advertising, and marketing communications activities of skit-makers, comedians, influencers, content creators/producers, bloggers, vloggers, etc. on digital media platforms,” said the director general, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, yesterday.

The majority of the commercials identified by this organization violate both Nigeria’s Code of Advertising Practice and ethical standards by making unsubstantiated claims and spreading false information.

In accordance with the Nigerian Code of Advertising Practice and the ARCON Act No. 23 of 2022, it is recommended that brand owners, digital agencies, secondary digital media space owners, bloggers, skit creators, comedians, influencers, content creators/producers, bloggers vloggers, and other advertising stakeholders in the digital/online space obtain pre-exposure approval of all advertisements, advertising, and marketing communications.

In order to assure compliance, Fadolapo stated: “ARCON will take appropriate steps, including penalties and prosecution, against violators of the Act’s terms.”

In order to clean up the business and reduce provocative advertising messages, ARCON had earlier in the year unveiled plans to regulate internet advertising in the nation.

The DG has previously said that the council will crack down on people and organizations who run advertisements without first obtaining an ARCON license.
