According to Sanwo-Olu, the investigation and prosecution would be transparent.

Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, said Wednesday that there will be no obstruction of justice in the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of Mrs. Bolanle Raheem, who was assassinated on Christmas Day by a police officer.

He stressed that the people of Lagos State need to be aware of the steps taken to bring the victim’s case to justice and that the results of the inquiry are crucial to the government and people of Lagos State.

“We have come here this morning first to extend seasons greetings to the Inspector-General of Police and also to get an update and to brief him as to the security situation of Lagos State, especially the very recent unfortunate incident of the death of a lady, Mrs. Omotola Raheem, by a bullet of a Police officer,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu during his visit to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, at the Police headquarters in Abuja.

“We truly need to understand the state’s security architecture and what we must accomplish. The first thing to do is to denounce the very regrettable tragedy, to convey the government’s and the Lagos State’s condolences, and to emphasize how awful it is for situations like this to occur at this moment in history. Beyond that, however, the real question is how to guarantee that occurrences like these are minimized and what the government can do to support the Nigeria Police, the Lagos State Police Command, and how to ensure greater cooperation because we do not have any other police forces.

“As the state’s governor, I believe it is crucial and very serious for us to visit this location and determine how quickly we can bring this officer’s case to court. And the Inspector General of Police himself has responded and engaged with us quite favorably.

Speaking further about the significance of his meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Sanwo-Olu declared that his administration will continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Police in the provision of new tools like body cameras and a joint advocacy program to strengthen and improve communication between the public and the police.

“We do believe that this conference will be extremely beneficial. There are many things we are returning. Even though we were here, we phoned the police commissioner, and he informed us of what was going on in Lagos. In essence, it involves keeping up the collaboration with the Police, doing what we can to provide you with some more equipment you can use, such as body cameras, and making sure that we can jointly run an advocacy campaign that can strengthen and improve public and police communication.
