Buhari Urges Stern Vigilance After The Maiduguri Fire
|As fire hazards in woods, residences, commercial structures, and marketplaces grow due to winds and increasing temperatures, President Muhammadu Buhari has urged caution.
Buhari’s appeal follows the emergence of a serious fire catastrophe that destroyed the well-known Maiduguri Monday Market. The nation’s thoughts and sympathies are with the industrious merchants and their families, who have apparently salvaged next to nothing from the fire, said the president, who yesterday expressed sorrow over the damage inflicted by the fire.
He praised Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration for its quick reaction to the tragedy and for directing efficient coordination and cooperation between federal and state authorities to help people in need.
In order to cope with the growing threat of market and other fire catastrophes, the president asked the state and federal authorities in charge of managing fires to aim for greater levels of readiness, mitigation measures, and strengthening of their response systems.
