Manchester United is urged by Michael Owen to sign the “next Wayne Rooney.”
In order to strengthen their roster, Michael Owen thinks Manchester United has to locate “the next Wayne Rooney” in the forthcoming transfer windows.
After suffering significant losses away at Brentford and Manchester City, United was able to bounce back and move into a better position in the Premier League standings. With a game in hand over Eddie Howe’s team and a point behind Newcastle, Erik ten Hag’s team is now fifth in the Premier League.
The Reds’ attackers’ inability to score is one criticism of their recent performance, however. With his winning goal against West Ham on Sunday, Marcus Rashford tried to make up for it, but the problem with goals still exists.
In an interview with AceOdds, Owen said that United’s first objective in the transfer market should be to buy a talented young striker. He said, “Obviously, Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger and isn’t going to be there for another four, five years.”
“You never know; this may be his last campaign. Therefore, looking at it from that angle, you do question where objectives will come from. While he has always scored goals, Marcus Rashford has never been particularly prolific.
“[Anthony] Over time, Martial has had a number of opportunities. He’s never been really productive or, say, scored into the twenties. Therefore, I believe Manchester United will eventually need to work on improving their goal scoring. They’ve made investments in their defense throughout the years. The full-backs, in my opinion, are still somewhat in doubt.
They spent a lot of money on players like [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka and [Luke] Shaw, who are likely not now on the club. However, I believe that Manchester United is likely watching the 18-, 19-, or 20-year-old who will replace Wayne Rooney.
“If you’re going to purchase someone, they need to secure that position for the next ten years. However, they haven’t really done that with anybody out there right now. As a result, they had to bring in players who were extremely present-tense, like Casemiro and Ronaldo. However, they could need to be changed.
